A new arcade machine was available in my country. The year is 1981. I was one of the firsts to play it. The game was called Polybius. I will never forget that name. Allow me to tell you my story so you do not end up how like I was for quite some time. Many months.

"Come on Gina!!! There's a new game in town! Let's go play it!!!" One of my childhood friends begged me, "Pleeeeeeeaaaaaaasssssseee...?" She was giving me those damn puppy dog eyes, ones you know you can't say no to. I sigh, "Okay! Okay! I'll go with you to the arcade place." I had a few extra coins left from shopping and time before I was told to come home. But I wish I had said no that day.

We walked in the arcade place and saw... IT. Polybius was in the corner. No one was playing it. The other people must've not heard of it's existence. I kinda feel bad for the families that were hurt by this...thing. I stared at Polybius blankly, "Is this it? Is this the game you were telling me about?" My friend nodded, "Sure is! Let's play it!!!" I forgot to say this but I will leave my friend's name completely anonymous. And there is a reason why... but I will explain that later.

We place a coin into the machine. A warning came up that read, "The Polybius video game has been linked to impaired memory loss and psychological changes. Game play may cause epileptic seizures in susceptible individuals. Do you still want to continue?"Excuse me, seizures? Psychological changes? My mind raced with questions but at the time, I was only 13 years old. I had no idea what any of that was. I clicked the continue option and started to play the game. My friend was watching me get the highest score on the game so far. To my surprise, the game was kinda fun. It was one of those plane shooting games where you have to shoot the enemy pixels. I stopped playing after 20 minutes of gameplay. I needed a break. I let my friend play Polybius for a bit while I took my break.

I went outside for some air and when I came back into the arcade place, my friend was gone.
